WHAT IS "NCODE" ALL ABOUT?
National Community of The Disadvantaged Enrichment, NCODE Inc, (referred to as “NCODE”), is a 501( c ) 3 non-profit approved public charity organization. NCODE is supported by volunteers nationwide through inner city, rural and urban community initiatives for the disadvantaged. NCODE coordinates and collaborates with community area businesses, ministries, and concerned individuals with a similar mission to assist: disadvantaged persons, disabled, elderly, seniors, veterans, homeless, new refugees, and spiritually needy persons. NCODE’s mission and objective is to bridge the gap in relieving poverty and distress through creating self enrichment nontraditional innovative programs and projects, and to connect available opportunities, resources, concerned businesses, and citizens which desire to share in increasing care, hope, and self sufficiency of the deserving needy.

NCODE, (first named ECODE) was envisioned on 2004 on Thanksgiving day, and formerly founded in Rowan County North Carolina on Jun 27, 2005. Ms. Boatman, its founder, being a former endangered disabled woman, who was medically indigent and homeless for 20 years, decided to keep a journal of her crisis, and vowed after reaching self-sufficiency, that she would make a difference in the lives of the needy and poor communities across United States.

Ms. Boatman, in 2004 in her new home, realized most of her neighbors did not have a Thanksgiving meal and decided to assist the Provident Baptist Church (East Spencer) by delivering their thanksgiving prepared meals using her old Ford Van. She later found a local pastor (Love Christian Center) who allowed her twice a week to take his surplus of bread from his veterans program to those who were most needy. Later a regular schedule to disperse the food was formed by the Board Volunteers and the Bridging the Gap pilot project began. Ms. Boatman collaborated with well known community neighbor, Mr. White, and together they begin to proactively research citizen and community issues and document deterring factors. The two recruited other concerned neighbor-volunteers with leadership ability and established a formation committee. The committee researched similar issues in other USA small town rural communities in a comparison study. It was based upon the committee’s initial findings, that the volunteer board of directors was formalized. The newly formed board called “NCODE” Board of Directors” was birthed on June 27 2005, registering its name with Rowan County and later filing incorporation with the State of North Carolina to be its first headquarters. In 2006, NCODE Inc., completed its administrative tasks and incorporation with the receipt of its 501 c 3 IRS approval letter of public charity recognition.

HISTORY

NCODE’S programs and pilot projects are nontraditional. The Board researches, surveys and gather specific information in order to combat issues related to the objective of its mission.

The first program began as a pilot project in the small rural town of East Spencer, North Carolina, a community with a large population of deserving disadvantaged persons. The board decided that hunger was a key factor, and the lack of availability of surplus foods was a deterrent to the quality of life of the citizens, “Projects Bridging the Gap ” was formed to give the citizens relief, an opportunity to have surplus foods and groceries on a regular basis which was purported to strengthen their household budget. The NCODE Board implemented the new project as a “community” volunteer support program which involved those that needed the foods with those that lack the ability to access the foods. The Board received supporters from many area community businesses, ministries and area corporations to include; The FOOD LION CORPORATION Stores (Rowan/Cabarrus North Carolina), the SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK OF METROLINA (Charlotte North Carolina), and was featured numerous times in the Salisbury Post newspaper (2005-09), www.salisburypost.com/archives (Charlotte, North Carolina), and featured in the Faith & Religion section of the Independent Tribune (11-4-06), www.independenttribune.com (Kannapolis, North Carolina). The pilot projects ran for a year, strengthen and empowered the citizens and their communities and was successfully developed into a program which stretched throughout Rowan and portions of Cabarrus counties for a number of years .

Those that benefited from the projects and programs were large number of elderly, displaced and disadvantaged veterans, the homebound, seniors, low income families, and low income working persons and families, geographically disadvantaged families in rural areas. The program also provide One on one client advocacy, homeless crisis intervention, financial assistance, filial connection, companion-ship and fellow-ship (to combat and decrease depression, loneliness, and early death.), community activities, dream and hope innovation in careers, scholarship connection, resource opportunities, and selected national relocation assistance. These categories were made high priority objectives by the volunteer Board of Directors which vowed to make a difference.
